The following sites provide specific information on making legal changes of gender in the State of Colorado. In order to change your gender marker on your passport follow the link provided to the letter. Understand that if you have not been treated by a physician for your gender incongruence and provide the proper documentation then you will not be allowed to make the change. Surgery is no longer necessary, only proof that you are living full time in your new gender. This comes from your treating physician. Proof of name change is required if it has been completed, as is a current photo.
The process is involved and takes several months so please do your research. The following link provides forms and instructions. Colorado will change both name and sex after SRS, and will issue a new birth certificate rather than amend the old one.
In order to change the name and gender for a person born in Colorado, they need a certified copy of a legal name change and the judge ordering them to change the birth certificate because of gender reassignment. Once the surgery has been completed and you have the court order, they need a notarized letter or the correction form and $20.00 to correct the certificate, $17.75 for first copy of the birth certificate and $10.00 for each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time.
They have a new exchange policy which states “a new certificate of birth may be issued for $10 upon the surrender of an old birth certificate only when a correction or change is made to the birth certificate”
