Neil Cannon, Ph.D.

Dr. Neil Cannon is a Certified Sex Therapist, Gender-Specialist & Couples Counselor.  Neil is in private practice in the Cherry Creek section of Denver, Colorado where he treats virtually any matter related to sexuality.  Neil created the sliding scale gender program at Denver Family Institute which provides low cost individual and couples counseling for the gender variant community.  Neil is a Professor of Couples Counseling, and speaks frequently at the leading colleges and universities throughout Colorado.  Neil is the Rocky Mountain Section Leader for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists (AASECT).  Neil is a long-time volunteer and contributor to the Gender Identity Center of Colorado, and the LGBT community.

Sarah Burgamy, PsyD

Sarah Burgamy, Psy.D. is the founder of a very active private practice, PhoenixRISE, with specialty offerings in identity development (considering intersections of target and non-target status identities), sexual minority competency as well as transgender and gender variant issues with adults, adolescents and children.  She is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Denver (DU), Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP).  Dr. Burgamy currently teaches in the M.A. program in International Disaster Psychology, as well as previously teaching in the Psy.D. program.  Within these programs, she has instructed classes related to multicultural competency as well as expressly relating to considerations and issues of LGBTIQQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning) people.  Specifically, these class titles include:  “Cross Cultural Analysis”, and “Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues”.  Dr. Burgamy has previously instructed courses in “Development and the Cultural Context,” garnering a focus on lifespan development through a cultural lens.  Dr. Burgamy holds a leadership position in the Colorado Psychological Association as the current President-Elect and has previously served as a Board Member At-Large and the Diversity Division Chair.  Additionally, Dr. Burgamy works as the contracted psychologist to Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC), particularly the Youthbuild program, in Denver, serving low-income and, primarily, racial/ethnic minority youth ages 18-25. Dr. Burgamy is a member of the Board of Directors for Urban Peak, a Denver-based non-profit organization serving homeless and youth at risk of becoming homeless, ages 14-24.  As part of her involvement with this organization, she  has previously served as Chair of the Programming committee helping to address the breadth and efficacy of clinical and non-clinical services offered to youth  clients toward the goal of health, self-sufficiency, and general well-being.
Dr. Burgamy is a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association, including Divisions 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,  and Transgender Issues) and 47 (Exercise and Sport Psychology), and the Colorado Psychological Association.  She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Dartmouth College Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni/ae Association since 2004.

 

Dr. Beth Firestein

Dr. Beth Firestein is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Loveland, Colorado.  Dr. Firestein is the editor of two books on bisexuality,  Bisexuality: The psychology and politics of an invisible minority (Sage, 1996)  and Becoming Visible: Counseling bisexuals across the lifespan  (Columbia Univ Press, 2007).  Both of her edited volumes are inclusive on transgender perspectives as these  intersect with bisexuality and sexual orientation.  Dr. Beth has also written numerous book chapters and articles on LGBT topics and has conducted a number of presentations and therapist training in working with transgender, bisexual, gay and lesbian clients.

Dr. Firestein’s practice includes serving individuals, couples and families, including those living alternative lifestyles, such as polyamory.  She is a long-standing member of the American Psychological Association and a fellow of Division 44, The Society for the Psychological Study of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Psychology.  She has been leading the Northern Colorado Gender Support Group for the past 16 years and has been a past presenter at several Gold Rush conferences.

 

Daniel H. Reirden, M.D.

Daniel H. Reirden, M.D., is an Attending Physician in the Section of Adolescent Medicine at The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Reirden received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Fordham University and his M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Following graduation from medical school in 1999, Dr. Reirden completed a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency program at the University of Connecticut/Connecticut Children's Medical Center. He then pursued fellowship training in Adolescent Medicine at The Children's Hospital Philadelphia, graduating in 2006. Dr. Reirden is board certified in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, and is sub-board certified in Adolescent Medicine. His clinical interests are focused on the care of HIV-infected adolescents and young adults, transitioning the medical care of individuals with complex pediatric diseases to adult health care, and the care of sexual minority youth. Current research projects include investigations into sexual behaviors of young women accessing family planning services and current screening practices for sexually-transmitted infections; the effect of gaps in insurance coverage on access to HIV-related care; and evaluating professionalism in pediatric residency training. Dr. Reirden is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Member of the American College of Physicians, a Member of the Society for Adolescent Medicine, and a credentialed HIV Specialist and member of The American Academy of HIV Medicine.

 

Matt Kailey

Matt Kailey is a trans man and an award-winning author, blogger, and community activist based in Denver. His book "Just Add Hormones: An Insider's Guide to the Transsexual Experience" was a Lambda Literary Award Finalist, a Rocky Mountain News local bestseller, and an Advocate magazine pick for Best Trans Book. He hopes that his upcoming collection, "Teeny Weenies and Other Short Subjects," will fare as well.

 

Arlene Lev

Arlene (Ari) Istar Lev LCSW-R, CASAC,

is a social worker, family therapist, educator, and writer whose work addresses the unique therapeutic needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. She is the Founder and Clinical Director of Choices Counseling and Consulting providing individual and  family therapy and TIGRIS—The Institute for Gender, Relationships, Identity, and Sexuality, a training program in Albany, New York,

She is also a part-time lecturer at the State University New York at Albany, School of Social Welfare where she has developed an advanced graduate course called Sexual Identity and Social Work, and is currently working with the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Project (SOGI). She is also an adjunct at Empire College where she teaches Sex and Gender in a Cross-Cultural Perspective. Arlene has authored numerous journal articles and essays including authoring two books: The Complete Lesbian and Gay Parenting Guide and Transgender Emergence: Therapeutic Guidelines for Working with Gender-Variant People and their Families winner of the American Psychological Association (Division 44) Distinguished Book Award, 2006.

She is is the Founder of Rainbow Access Initiative, a training program on LGBT issues for therapists and medical professionals in the Capital Region and the Clinical Supervisor for Center Support: Counseling Services, a low-cost therapy program at The Pride Center of the Capital Region. She serves on the editorial Boards of The Journal of GLBT Family Studies, and The International Journal of Transgenderism.
