Friday Lunch Keynote

Kelley Winters

Dr Kelley Winters is a writer and community advocate on issues of transgender medical policy. She is a former Director of Outreach for the Gender Identity Center of Colorado, founder of GID Reform Advocates, member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and Advisory Board Member for the Matthew Shepard Foundation and Trans Youth Family Advocates. She has presented papers on the psychiatric classification of gender diversity at annual conventions of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association and the Association of Women in Psychology Association. Her articles have appeared in a number of psychology and psychiatry journals and in two books. Kelley assisted in drafting the current human rights ordinances in Boulder and Denver Colorado, and she was instrumental in trans-positive reform of Colorado drivers license policy in 2006 and in adding Gender Identity and Expression to employment policies of the Hewlett-Packard Company. Kelley received the 2007 Melissa Chapman Award for Social Change and 2002 Sonja's Dream Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gender Identity Center of Colorado. In 1999, she receivied the Colorado Pride Award from Equality Colorado.

Friday Night Keynote

Ryan Sallans

Ryan is a Community Educator and Internal Communications/Web Developer for Planned Parenthood of Nebraska and Council Bluffs in Lincoln Nebraska, where he provides educational services to schools, community organizations, and clubs. His programming focuses on eating dissorders, body image, and wellness for all ages and diverse populations, as well as sexuality and gender identity in relation to the LGBTQIA community. In 2007 he appeared on Larry King Live! on CNN and also appeared in the documentary Gender Rebel on the LOGO channel. Along with local colleges, high schools and organizations, he has also presented at Bowling Green State University, National Gay and Lesbian Task Creating Conference, Forge-Forward, and Gender Odyssey. By the end of 2008, Ryan hopes to have made steps toward completing I Am Trans and We Are..? : A look at transgender individuals and the Romantic Relatonships that last.

Jennifer Boylan

Jenny has been a frequent guest on a number of national television and radio programs, including three visits to the Oprah Winfrey Show. She has also appeared on the Larry King Show, The Today Show and been the subject of a documentary on CBS News’ 48 Hours. She has also appeared on a wide range of local and syndicated television shows, as well as NPR's Marketplace and the Diane Rehm show. In 2007 she played herself on two episodes of ABC's "All My Children." She has spoken widely around the country on gender and imagination, at venues including the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and the New Jersey State Theatre. She has given plenary and keynote speeches at conferences on diversity and scholarship around the country, and at colleges and universities including Amherst, Wesleyan, Dartmouth, Columbia, Vanderbilt, Duke, Bucknell, Dickinson, Bates, Ohio State, Middlebury, Gettysburg, Georgia State, the University of Puget Sound, and Westminster College in Salt Lake City. She has spoken at law firms, at corporate events, and at bookstores from Seattle to Vermont.

 

Jenny's memoir, She's Not There, published by Doubleday in 2003, was one of the first bestselling works by a transgendered American; until 2001 she published under the name James Boylan. She's Not There, currently in its eighth printing, is popular both as a textbook in high schools and colleges as well as with readers's groups. The paperback edition contains a "readers guide" in addition to the main text, which consists not only of Jenny's insights on "a life in two genders" but also includes an afterword by Pultizer Prize winner Richard Russo, whose friendship with James, and later with Jennifer, provides part of the books narrative.

Margaret Stumpp

Margaret Stumpp, Ph.D

QUANTITATIVE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES

 

Margaret Stumpp is Chief Investment Officer for Prudential Financial Quantitative Investment Management Associates (QMA). In that capacity, Margaret directs the investment of over $65 billion across a myriad of investment strategies for institutional and retail investors around the globe. QMA's clients include a global roster of the world's largest corporations, endowments, public entities and mutual funds

Margaret has published numerous articles in academic journals and makes frequent conference presentations on finance and investment strategy. She holds a BA degree in Economics from Boston University and MA and PhD degrees in Economics from Brown University

In 2002 Margaret transitioned from male to female while maintaining her position as QMA's CIO. In addition to her role as CIO, she meets frequently with politicians and corporate executives across the country to discuss issues affecting transgender people in the workplace. Her recognitions have included the NGLCC "Courage in Business Award", the Lamda Legal "Liberty Award" and the Prudential Financial "EAGLES Advocacy Award."

In addition to her professional and advocacy work, Margaret is an avid windsurfer, gardener and occasional plumber. Despite her best efforts, she has not yet been indicted by the SEC.
